Abstract
‘St Cecelia’ is a feminist, free verse poem that aims to foreground the violent death of the singer during the Roman empire's repression of Christianity. The look of the poem evokes the stanzaic hexameter of the ancients, but is ultimately a free verse work populated with uncanny imagery that aims to revitalise the story of the saint’s tragic death and courage for contemporary readerships.
