The Academic Debate about Mega-Regionals and International Lawyers: Legalism as Critique?

As struggles over the so-called mega-regionals intensiﬁed, a surprising cohort of international lawyers argued publicly against such treaties. This article focuses on certain contributions employing a particular mode of legalist resistance. Such interventions, I argue, offer welcome insights but, at their core, reafﬁrm a speciﬁcally neoliberal way of thinking about international law, regardless of the intentions of their authors.
