Abstract

This chapter provides five snapshots of practice that capture the diversity of languages programs offered for young learners in Australia: Foundation Indonesian class, Year 6 Hebrew class, Year 4 English/French class, Year 5 Greek class and Year 2 German/Music class. Content and language integrated learning (CLIL) is a relatively new approach to teaching languages within the Australian context. CLIL is one of three main types of language learning programs offered in Australia and there is evidence that it is gaining in popularity.
