Abstract

The basic principles of spray drying and fluid bed drying are discussed with emphasis on the atomization process and air distribution, which in combination are important for ensuring an optimal mixing of the atomized droplets and the drying air and hence an efficient drying. The changes in the properties of the drying air and the drying product, taking place during a very short time in the spray drying process, are illustrated.Stickiness of products during drying can adversely affect the drying process and cause product deposits in the drying chamber and eventually affect product quality, product recovery, cleaning frequency, and hence the overall capacity and profitability of a spray drying ..
