Abstract

The declining cost of residential energy storage and photovoltaic (PV) systems will soon make it possible for many customers to significantly reduce their energy dependency from the grid. However, since off-the-shelf storage systems are controlled for the sole benefit of the customer, distribution network impacts resulting from high PV penetrations might still occur. This paper quantifies the extent to which residential storage systems (i.e., batteries), can mitigate technical problems across low (LV) and medium voltage (MV) networks.
