Abstract

This short ethnographic film is based on long-term research in the Himalayas, and is an output from a project funded by the UK Economic and Social Research Council. In a village 2500m high in the Indian Himalayas, life is changing. Rising levels of education and increasing communication have led to a new set of hopes and aspirations. Many of the younger generation seek to chart a new course, different from those of their parents. But opportunities for these young people remain elusive. This film tells one man’s story of juggling responsibilities and fighting for dreams, both for himself and his community.
