Abstract

Component method can be used to predict the moment-rotation behaviour of a wide range of joint configurations by decomposing the joint into individually basic components. The component method has been adopted in Eurocode 3 Part 1–8 and Eurocode 4 Part 1–1 for the design of steel and composite joints, respectively. However, the design rules given in Eurocode 3 Part 1–8 and Eurocode 4 Part 1–1 are restricted to the steel and composite joints with open section columns, i.e. I-or H-sections. For the joints with hollow or concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) sections, new basic components are introduced and thus the design rules for the new components are required. This paper aims to provide desi..
