The role of social housing in Australia is changing. From a focus on government-led provision of housing for working-class families in the years following World War II, social housing is increasingly considered a safety net or an interim option for only the most vulnerable households. Government policy and rhetoric now focuses on encouraging tenants to move out as soon as their financial situation allows it.
