Growing demand for food and fibre and emerging concerns over the environmental implications of agricultural intensification decisions concerning nitrogen fertiliser use remain important. In translating these macro‐level imperatives to micro‐level decisions farmers face many uncertainties when considering fertiliser use. Factors include climate variability and plant yield responses, soil conditions, crop type, fertiliser quality as well as market prices of inputs and products.
