Characterisation of farming systems in Central Myanmar

Agricultural production is considered to be poor and the use of fertilisers very low in Central Myanmar. In the Lower Dry Zone typical farming systems comprise monsoon and irrigated dry season crops, principally rice and maize but also legumes (pulses) and other crops. The formulation of effective policies requires information on how different management options affect the complex issues across farming systems. There is substantial diversity within among smallholder farming systems.
