Automated furrow irrigation is a new technology being developed commercially and offered to farmers in Australia. Improvements in water, fertilizer and labour efficiencies are possible with the more precise management of irrigation water, albeit with initial capital and ongoing management costs. The systematic quantification of potential benefits is a strength of the analysis reported here, which provides information for cotton growers in the Namoi Valley of northern New South Wales (NSW), Australia.
