Abstract
El nono libro de Amadís de Gaula, by Feliciano de Silva, which recounts the prowess of Amadis of Greece, was translated by Nicolas Herberay of Essarts and published in Paris in 1548 under the title Le Huitiesme Livre d’Amadis. This article compares the original version and its translation in order to identify possible dysfunctional elements of the narrative and clues that suggest a «crisis» of the chivalric genre.
