Abstract

Over the past 50 years, the Indonesia Project at the Australian National University has been associated with three edited books that have provided a comprehensive sectoral view of the Indonesian economy at significant junctures. The Indonesian Economy during the Soeharto Era (1981), by Anne Booth and Peter McCawley, charted the New Order’s awkward early phase of rehabilitation and development. The Oil Boom and After (Booth 1992) captured the manic phase of the oil boom and the expansion of the industrial base that followed the successive devaluations of the 1980s.
