Shifting the Ground: Rethinking Landscape Painting through Performance

Abstract
As a performance artist and academic I understand performance as a form that problematises established conventions within the visual arts and questions the histories that shape its viewing practices. Performance art has historically challenged the primacy of the art object by understanding it as contingent on the artist’s performativity and subjectivity. In this manner performance artist’s have illuminated the social and political forces that shape arts production by bending and breaking the ideologies that sit underneath dominant narratives and conventional discipline categories.
