Encyclopedia of Language & Linguistics | Elsevier | Published : 2006

Abstract

This article discusses ways in which computers can assist field linguists whose chief concerns we take to be language documentation, including recording a previously unrecorded or little recorded language in order to write a grammatical description. Recognizing that the individual software tools listed in the article may well be superseded shortly, it outlines both a workflow and typical functions that fit current methods in language documentation.
