Abstract

Made in Orere Point New Zealand, Prague and Philadelphia, SEED is a performance about lost habitats, ornithology and civility by two 'bird-women' in search of home. Initiated through an invitation to direct a new work for Philadelphia based company, Subcircle, I drew on Bill Hammond's painting, 'Buller's Birds' with its strangely aligned table for dead birds. The research considered the role of early New Zealand bird collectors such as Walter Buller and the instinctual life of the body to collect, nest and journey.
