Abstract
The author presents a response to Elizabeth Dempster's 2005 article "Undisciplined Subjects, Unregulated Practices: Dancing in the Academy." She suggests that Dempster's writing provokes and problematizes the identity of dance studies as a discipline within the academy. She is also critical of Dempster's skepticism toward the ontological value that appears to have accrued to dance and performance studies within the academy.
