Reliability evaluation of eurocode 4 for concrete-filled steel tubular columns

Abstract

This paper evaluates the reliability of the design provisions given in Eurocode 4 (EC4) for concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) columns under axial compression. The evaluation is based on the experimental results of 2,224 tests on short and slender CFST columns (1,245 circular sections and 979 rectangular sections). Monte Carlo simulation is used to estimate probability of failure and the reliability index based on the randomness in dead and live loads, steel yield stress, concrete compressive strength and the error of the EC4 resistance model.
