Problems associated with the selection of repertoire and the availability of suitable venues and artists, as well as changes in the perceived tastes of audiences as the city developed, are uncovered through a survey of performances of Bach’s compositions in Canberra since 1913. Canberra's development is charted, examining isolation, international touring artists, large choral societies and local specialist music groups.
