Abstract

Language assessment is a hybrid discipline which draws on expertise from both applied linguistics and measurement. While research and theories in applied linguistics inform the conceptualisations of language ability, expertise in measurement enables language assessment researchers and practitioners to ascertain the extent to which the target language constructs have been assessed in a reliable and valid manner.
