Large eddy simulation of gas-liquid flow in a partially aerated bubble column

In the present work, transient gas-liquid flow dynamics in a partially aerated bubble column (0.15 m wide, 0.15 m deep and 0.5 m high) were studied using large eddy simulation (LES). The Eulerian–Eulerian approach was used to describe the equations of motion of the two-phase flow. The numerical model was validated with the interfacial closures evaluated for drag, lift and virtual mass forces. The column was filled with water up to 0.45 m in the vertical direction.
