Abstract
Volunteers make significant contributions to waterways management through revegetation works, environmental monitoring, habitat management, education and outreach, decision-making processes, and biodiversity surveys, amongst other activities. As such, they provide expertise, skills, and labour, as well as representing community views in waterways management. An understanding of the experiences of volunteers can assist water management agencies in: informing strategies for improving the recruitment, participation and retention of volunteers within waterways programs; and, identifying and evidencing the contributions and impacts of volunteer programs for waterways management.
