A reflection: 'We've got it backwards: It's too late by age 8'

Thirty years ago I wrote an article of this title. This paper is a reflection on what I wrote then in relation to current trends in art education. It also presents a synopsis of my research and publication trajectory in relation to multimodal engagement in the arts, the sociocultural contexts in which artistic learning takes place, the embodied qualities of such participation and the need for early learning educators to receive the best quality initial teacher training.
