Abstract

Conservation is the action undertaken to preserve cultural heritage, in all its forms, in order that a secure and stable cultural record is available into the future. Conservation achieves this through the actions of preservation, remedial conservation, and restoration. These activities are framed by professional codes of ethics that describe conservation philosophy and practice, define conservation terminology, and guide decision making in conservation planning, treatment, and research.
