Abstract
This chapter explores the situation of Arabic language in Australia in general, and how the Standard Arabic is taught, especially at the University of Melbourne. The chapter further explains the author’s different experiences in teaching Arabic in different global geographical locations, educational contexts, student cohorts from Arabic speaking background and non-Arabic speakers and their general, special and specific purposes and the role of those aspects in determining the best practices and approaches in teaching Arabic.
