This keynote presentation explores the historic links between colour music, synaesthesia, film, multi-modal performance and representations of multi-modal music interfaces in gaming The presentation begins by exploring the Atari Video Music, an unusual commercial music visualiser that combined video gaming hardware and psychedelic visuals. Casting backwards, the presentation argues that such work is grounded in a long tradition of multi-modal composition and music performance that has its roots in colour music and the work of composers like Scriabin.
