Abstract
Knowledge of the structural, functional and molecular features of the intestinal adaptative response following intestinal loss has expanded over the past decade largely driven by data derived from animal models. Direct evidence characterising the adaptative response in humans continues to be limited by practical and ethical challenges in conducting research in this diverse and complex patient cohort. The control of the intestinal adaptative response is complex. Following a large resection of small intestine, the desire for food intake often increases to compensate for malabsorption. Structural and functional adaptation occurs in the ileum and colon after jejunal resection. Functional, but li..
