Youth Media Consumption and Privacy Risks in the Digital Era
Reimagining Communication: Experience | Routledge | Published : 2020
Young people’s heavy use of digital media has raised concerns about privacy risks. However, little has been known regarding the underlying mechanisms of digital youth’s information management behaviors. Drawing insights from social contract theory, communication privacy management theory, and consumer socialization theory, this chapter argues that young people’s management of digital privacy is a function of various psychological and social factors. It proposes an integrative theoretical model of youth digital privacy management and highlights areas for future research.
