The global field of Chinese Studies has expanded greatly in line with the rise of China to become the world's second largest economy. This report argues that this trend is less apparent in Australia, where the domestic enrolment in Chinese Studies and postgraduate level training has been relatively constrained. The report is based on a survey of academics in the field of Chinese language and studies in Australian higher education. It was commissioned by the Asian Studies Association of Australia as part of a national update of the state of the field in Asian Studies in Australia.
