Technology-enhanced free-choice learning in marine conservation education

Abstract

This session reports on an ongoing study funded by the Teaching and Learning Research Initiative (TLRI) exploring how free-choice learning experiences can be designed to incorporate mobile technologies to enhance learner development of marine ecological literacy. The study involves designing an intervention based on mobile learning for use by a class of 9-10 year old students, their teacher and their parents before, during and after a visit to Goat Island Marine Reserve and the Goat Island Marine Discovery Centre (GIMDC) in New Zealand.
