Abstract

Direct combustion noise plays a key role in initiating thermoacoustic instability in lean, premixed gas turbines. Moreover, many combustion devices produce a high level of noise while being subjected to increasingly stringent noise regulations. Therefore, achieving a better understanding of sound generation by premixed flames is crucial for designing safer and quieter combustion devices. With the advancement in High-Performance Computing (HPC), high fidelity simulations such as Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) have received increasing attention as a means to improve our fundamental understanding of turbulent flames.
