Abstract

The availability of video technology has transformed the way classroom research is being conducted. This chapter illustrates the mutual affordances between data type and analytical approach in the Social Unit of Learning project, which employed a multiplicity of both in the interest of advancing our understanding of group interaction in a classroom setting. The data were generated using a laboratory classroom at The University of Melbourne, Australia, that was purposefully designed and built to allow simultaneous and continuous documentation of classroom interactions using 10 built-in video cameras and up to 32 audio inputs.
