Abstract
This paper discusses applications of high speed digital photography coupled with digital image correlation analysis in two dynamic laboratory 1 g model tests. The first application involves free falling penetrometer tests dropped into clay. The precision of this application depends on shaft texture, patch size, and sharpness of the pictures. Higher precision was achieved with bigger patch sizes. The highest precision of 0.0039 pixels was observed with the penetrometer stationary, but this decreased by an order of magnitude when its velocity was 4 ms-1. The photographs provided acceptable accuracies for the penetration depth, dynamic soil resistance and free fall acceleration. The second appl..
