Abstract
Historically in Australia, neonatal transport teams consisted of a physician training in pediatrics and a retrieval nurse. Even though nurse practitioners (NP) are used more commonly in retrieval services internationally, there is limited information about the effectiveness of the NP model of care in the neonatal emergency retrieval setting. In response to a key strategic goal by the management team, our regional pediatric emergency transport service introduced a retrieval NP into our neonatal emergency service team. This study evaluated the outcomes and satisfaction levels of an NP model of neonatal emergency retrieval.
