Abstract

This play tells of the lives of three generations of Aboriginal women living on the fringes of a rural, and racist, country town in Victoria. The original brief for Rainbow’s End, commissioned by Ilbijerri Theatre Company, was to tell a decade of Victorian Koori history and to write about ‘the heroes’. There were many heroes in that era, but I especially want to write about the ‘unsung’ heroes, and in particular the women who fought the good fight in their daily struggles to keep their families together, house, feed, cloth, educate, and above all, love and protect their children.
