Abstract
The field of contemporary authorship is characterized by competing styles and unstable positions. While it is being pulled into the future by the digital revolution, it also preserves elements from successive historical periods since the modern era of authorship began in the early eighteenth century. To add to this complexity, a seam of variously inauthentic authorship runs through these cultural and discursive strata of the writing and publishing subject, from the beginning to now.
