Coronavirus has seen unemployment surge so what should the government do next?

The scale and speed of COVID-19's impact on the Australian job market is difficult to comprehend. It's no use looking to history, either. In the major recessions of the 1980s and '90s hours worked decreased by 6 per cent — but that was after 18 months. What we have just seen in one month is a decrease in hours worked of 9.2 per cent.
