Coronavirus: payroll subsidy will save economy

Abstract

The coronavirus pandemic is the biggest challenge facing Australia since World War II. Large parts of the economy need to shut down for a time. But that shutdown need not bring with it huge economic pain. We do not need to choose ­between protecting people from the virus and protecting the economy. We can do both.
