Abstract
Impaired sexual function is a very frequent feature of Parkinson’s disease (PD). For example, erectile dysfunction (ED), defined as the inability to attain or maintain penile erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual performance, develops in the majority of men with PD. Management of sexual dysfunction often needs to be multifaceted and may sometimes need to include the partner. The first-line pharmacological treatments for ED are the selective cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (PDE5-I), of which sildenafil has the best evidence, being in clinical use since 1998.
