East Wind Comes West Wind Goes

Richard Frankland

This poem was written as part of a creative practice research project that was about giving voice to the traders and trades that were flourishing between people from Makassar and First Nations people along the northern Australian coast that has been dated to the 1700s, perhaps earlier. These relationships have been represented in song, dance, visual arts and story within both for many years. The poem was written for and was published as a recitation in the documentary that was created about the project, called 'Trading Cultures', which aired on SBS in 2019.
