Abstract

WIPO’s mission is ‘to lead the development of a balanced and effective international IP system that enables innovation and creativity for the benefit of all’. Previous chapters have scrutinized WIPO’s history and the roles played by the organization in its 50-year history: spanning norm formation and education, its role in the international legal landscape, and how the organization and its sprawling network of stakeholders and observers actually operate. In light of all that, our role in this penultimate chapter is critically and realistically to evaluate the prospects of WIPO fulfilling its stated mission over the next 50 years.
