Abstract
The new organization established by the WIPO Convention did not formally come into existence until the necessary number of ratifications and accessions had been deposited. This happened relatively quickly, and the Convention came into force on 26 April 1970; in the interim, BIRPI continued to carry out the various functions that were henceforth to be assumed by WIPO, which held its first formal meetings in September 1970.
