These research agenda items will require creative approaches and determined individuals to better understand, describe, and ultimately improve medical care. Such work will require support. Public agencies such as the US National Institutes of Health, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute, Department of Veterans Affairs, CDC, United Kingdom research councils, European Commission, and Australia's National Health and Medical Research Council should devote a portion of funding towards the study of overuse.
