Abstract

The tailoring of surface plasmon (SP) resonances on and within metallic nanostructures offers the potential to realise a host of device functionalities and has led to a surge of new discoveries and applications in the growing fields of nanophotonics and plasmonics. In spite of significant preceding and ongoing research, however, there are still many puzzles yet to be solved, and a considerable variety of exciting latent applications waiting to be developed. One of the aims of this thesis is concerned with investigating wavefront control devices comprising arrays of nanometric apertures perforated in thin metallic films. Here, one (1D) and two-dime..
