Active treatment options for patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC) have evolved significantly over the last 20 years. During this time, the median overall survival of these patients has approximately doubled. However, the five-year survival of patients with metastatic CRC is still poor, and further research to optimise treatment is required. The use of targeted therapies has contributed to improvements in clinical outcomes in these patients. However, not all patients respond to these drugs, and they are expensive.
