Porous coordination polymers for the capture of simple gases and environmentally harmful emissions

Abstract

The thesis describes a synthetic and structural investigation of coordination polymers in addition to an analysis of their adsorption properties. In chapter 2 the synthesis and structure of Li+ based network materials are described. An open-type network of composition Li(paa)DMF (Hpaa = (2E)-3-(pyridine-4-yl)prop-2-enoic acid) was successfully synthesised. Exposure to the atmosphere, however, resulted in the material redissolving into mother liquor. Crystals of a dense Li(paa) network subsequently separated from the solution. Open-type frameworks have yet to be generated using the longer peb- (Hpeb = 4-[(E)-2-(pyridin-4-yl)ethenyl]benzoic acid) ligand. The coordination environment of Li+ i..
