The advent of affordable whole genome sequencing has been a disruptive force that is changing the biological sciences, with public health microbiology being no exception. As microbial genomics is a new frontier for public health microbiology, a substantial amount of development and validation research is required. Genomic-based investigations in response to bacterial public health problems are gaining traction, but optimal approaches to bioinformatics and data analysis are still being developed. In order to help address these needs, this thesis investigated the utility of microbial genomics for Australian public health microbiology through three case studies of three distinct bacterial patho..
