Abstract

The advent of affordable whole genome sequencing has been a disruptive force that is changing the biological sciences, with public health microbiology being no exception. As microbial genomics is a new frontier for public health microbiology, a substantial amount of development and validation research is required. Genomic-based investigations in response to bacterial public health problems are gaining traction, but optimal approaches to bioinformatics and data analysis are still being developed.
