Is there a non-symbolic SNARC-like effect?

Abstract

It is claimed that numbers are represented spatially. Evidence for this claim comes from the Spatial-Numerical Association of Response Codes (SNARC) effect. In the symbolic number SNARC effect, faster responses are found for the left/right hand for numerical judgments when a presented target number is smaller/larger than a referent. Yet little research has examined whether a SNARC-like effect is evident for non-symbolic quantities. If a non-symbolic SNARC-like effect can be demonstrated it would suggest that non-symbolic quantity is also represented spatially.
