Nigeria is an agrarian economy with over seventy percent of the population engaged in agriculture. However, the nation depends heavily on food imports. Nigerian food producers are predominantly resource-constrained poor farmers, who are the most food insecure. Nigerian agriculture is chiefly conducted to meet household food requirement but is gradually transitioning to semi-subsistence agriculture. Agriculture was once the mainstay of Nigeria.
