Abstract
‘Déjà vu’ for solo flute builds on the long history of composing for the modern flute and exploring its capacity for diverse timbral variation. Déjà vu’ specifies these colour changes according to intensity and ‘hollowness’ of tone and makes them intrinsic to the unfolding of the composition. The piece combines diverse influences including 12-tone technique and improvised atonal jazz. It’s 26-year history of performances in Australia, Italy, and the United States testifies to the internationally-recognised significance of the work.
